HISTORY OF ITALIAN LITERATURE

On this map, an imaginary and horizontal timeline goes from 1182, when San Francesco was born, to the end of the second millennium. On this timeline it is placed the name of each Italian author from the date of his/her birth to the date of his/her death. The length of the author timeline stands for the length of his/her life. In this way it is possible to understand clearly the chronological order of the Italian authors.

« The person who doesn’t read lives only one life: his own. The reader lives 5,000. Reading is immortality backwards. »

Umberto Eco | semiologist, writer

It is tradition to date the beginning of the Italian literature in the XII century, when, all over around the peninsula, they start to write in Italian language with a literary purpose. The first literary document, whose austro we know, is the Cantico delle creature of Francesco d’Assisi. From that moment a history of more than eight centuries begins. It is not always easy to remember the chronological order of all the past events and this map can help in a new way. A unique furniture accessory and a didactic tool.
A tapestry of words with:
• 260 authors that include personal notes
• 91 paragraphs dedicated to the literary movements during centuries.
• 300.000 characters.
